Apple is set to release a new software development tool that utilizes generative artificial intelligence (AI) to automate coding tasks. This innovative tool aims to simplify the coding process by generating blocks of code automatically, similar to Microsoft’s Github Copilot. As part of its upcoming version of the software development package Xcode, Apple has expanded testing of the AI-powered tool.
With the launch of this new package, Apple aims to compete with market rivals like Microsoft and Amazon. The company hopes to capitalize on the growing trend of using AI tools for automating coding work, with a focus on large language models, such as ChatGPT.
In addition to automating coding tasks, Apple is also exploring the use of AI to streamline code testing processes. To ensure the reliability of these AI-driven tools, Apple is encouraging its own developers to utilize the software internally before a wider release.
While Apple has historically trailed behind Microsoft in developing AI tools, it is now planning to unveil a suite of new tools, including AI-powered updates for iPhones and iPads, as well as AI-driven tools for its macOS operating system.
This move aligns with the broader industry trend of leveraging generative AI tools for coding automation. In February 2023, Microsoft launched its AI chatbot Copilot, taking an early lead in the race for AI tool development.
Meanwhile, in January, Samsung partnered with Google to allow Galaxy users to access AI tools developed by the Silicon Valley tech giant.
Apple has not provided any official comments regarding these developments.
