Duke Energy, a Charlotte-based utility holding company, is collaborating with General Motors, Ford Motor, and BMW of North America to introduce a pilot program in North Carolina. This program aims to provide price certainty to owners of electric vehicles (EVs) in the state.
The 12-month pilot plan, set to launch on November 1, will offer residential customers a flat-fee subscription for charging their EVs at home. The program allows customers in Duke Energy Carolinas service area to use up to 800 kilowatt hours per month for a fixed monthly fee of $19.99. In the Duke Energy Progress service area, the fee will be $24.99.
Duke Energy emphasizes that the average EV driver uses less than 15 kilowatt hours per day. As a result, this plan will offer nearly double the amount needed by an average driver each month.
Enrollment for the program begins on September 1. Customers can sign up to take part in this innovative initiative that aims to make EV ownership more convenient and cost-effective.
