Dundee Precious Metals announced on Tuesday that a court in Ecuador has upheld its project concessions in the country, while also clarifying the company’s expectations regarding certain local indigenous groups.
According to the Canadian gold miner’s initial analysis of the appeal of the Constitutional Protective Action filed against Ecuador’s Ministry of Environment, Water and Ecological Transition, the court’s decision reaffirmed the company’s mining concessions for the Loma Larga project.
Additionally, the court emphasized that the state must carry out free, prior, and informed consultation with specific local indigenous populations, which was already planned by the company as part of its project development.
The decision also highlighted that the ministry needs to provide environmental consultation to the communities in the project’s area of influence before advancing the project to the exploitation phase.
David Rae, Chief Executive of Dundee Precious Metals, stated that the company will collaborate with the government to outline the next steps for the consultation activities. They will also work closely with the ministry to promptly provide any additional details required.
