The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has granted approval to the updated mRNA COVID vaccines from Moderna Inc. and Pfizer Inc. These updated vaccines are deemed safe and effective for use in individuals aged five years and older.
Eligibility criteria
According to the FDA, individuals who have received their last COVID shot at least two months ago are eligible for a single dose of an updated mRNA vaccine. Previously vaccinated children between six months and four years of age are also eligible for either one or two doses of an updated shot, depending on the type of previous vaccine they received.
Importance of Vaccination
In a statement, Dr. Peter Marks, the director of the FDA’s Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research, emphasized the significance of vaccination in safeguarding public health and ensuring continued protection against severe consequences of COVID-19, such as hospitalization and death.
CDC Advisory Committee Meeting
The advisory committee on immunizations at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) will convene on Tuesday for a meeting to discuss and vote on updated COVID vaccine recommendations.
Remember, vaccination remains critical for our overall well-being and the fight against the ongoing pandemic. Stay informed and protected!
