The United States Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service has recently issued a warning regarding the possible presence of E. coli in over 58,000 pounds of ground beef products. The affected beef, produced by American Foods Group, LLC (operating as Green Bay Dressed Beef, LLC), was distributed in Ohio, Michigan, and Georgia.
While most types of E. coli are harmless, some strains can cause severe symptoms such as stomach cramps, bloody diarrhea, and vomiting, as explained by the Mayo Clinic.
The recalled ground beef products, manufactured on August 15 of this year, include the following:
- 90050 Beef Fine Ground 81/19 – Lot code: D123226026
- 20473 Beef Halal Fine Ground 73/27 – Lot code: D123226027
- 20105 Beef Fine Ground 73/27 – Lot code: D123226027
Unfortunately, the recall notice does not provide a specific list of stores that may carry the contaminated products in the affected states. However, consumers should check for the establishment number “EST. 18076” inside the USDA mark of inspection on the packaging.
As of now, there have been no confirmed reports of reactions or injuries resulting from consuming these products, according to FSIS officials. The discovery of contamination occurred when FSIS received notification that a sample collected by a state public health partner tested positive for a potentially dangerous strain of E. coli.
E. coli is a type of bacteria commonly found in the environment, foods, and the intestines of both humans and animals. In most cases, it is harmless; however, certain strains can cause various illnesses, including diarrhea, urinary tract infections, respiratory illness, pneumonia, and more, as stated by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. It is crucial to take precautions and stay informed about these food recalls to ensure your safety and well-being.
