SAP, the German business-software company, has announced the nomination of former Nokia President Pekka Ala-Pietila as the successor to long-time Chairman Hasso Plattner. This decision comes after a disagreement with the initially chosen candidate, Punit Renjen.
Ala-Pietila has been nominated to stand for election at the company’s annual general meeting on May 15. If elected, he will assume the role of chairman for a two-year term. Renjen, on the other hand, will resign his mandate on the supervisory board following the meeting.
According to a company statement, SAP and Dr. h.c. Punit Renjen have mutually agreed to part ways due to a difference in perspective on the role of SAP Supervisory Board chair. Renjen was originally designated to assume this position.
Hasso Plattner, one of the co-founders of SAP in 1972, has served as chairman since 2003. With Ala-Pietila’s extensive experience as the president of Nokia from 1999 to 2005 and his tenure on SAP’s supervisory board from 2002 to 2021, he is well-positioned to take on this new role.
