U.K. Stocks Drop as FTSE 100 Index Closes Down

The U.K. stock market experienced a decline on Friday, with the FTSE 100 Index closing down at 7,360.55, representing a decrease of 1.28%.

Declines in Key Companies

Several companies listed on the FTSE 100 saw significant declines in their shares on Friday:

  • Diageo PLC (DGE) experienced the largest decline, with shares tumbling 12.17%.
  • Ocado Group PLC (OCDO), a food retail firm, saw its shares shed 5.58%.
  • Precious metals company Fresnillo PLC (FRES) also experienced a decline of 4.93%.

Top Decreases in the Market

In addition to the above-mentioned companies, two other notable decreases in stock value were observed:

  • WPP PLC (WPP), an advertising/marketing/public relations company, experienced a decrease of 3.50%.
  • ITV PLC (ITV), a broadcasting business, saw its stocks shed 3.37%.

Increases in Key Companies

On the other hand, BAE Systems PLC (BA), a defense equipment/products company, witnessed an increase in its shares by 1.24%.

Other Companies with Stock Increases

Aside from BAE Systems PLC, two other companies observed stock increases:

  • SSE PLC (SSE), a firm specializing in energy utilities, witnessed a rise of 1.11%.
  • Ferguson PLC (FERG), a wholesalers company, saw its stocks increase by 0.78%.

Major Oil & Gas Companies’ Performance

Shell PLC (SHEL) and BP PLC (BP), both major players in the oil & natural gas industry, also experienced increases in their stocks:

  • Shell PLC saw its stocks rise by 0.55%
  • BP PLC witnessed a stock increase of 0.53%

Currency and Commodity Market Updates

In currency markets, the pound recorded a decline of 0.18% against the dollar and 0.16% against the euro.

Meanwhile, Brent crude rose by 1.9% to $81.50, and the yield on the 10-year gilt increased by 6.030 basis points to 4.335%.
